Engineering Fitter Apprentice

The Southampton Engineering Training Association (SETA) is supporting Pudsey Diamond Engineering Ltd to recruit four Level 3 Apprentices working towards an Engineering Fitter standard to join their team and develop within the organisation.

What will the apprentice be doing?

The position will require the candidate to be actively involved within the day to day running of the factory, assisting and shadowing of tradespersons as required and undertaking small projects to facilitate the passing of the Engineering Standard for Fitter.

This will involve:

  • Reading technical drawings
  • Marking out
  • Fabrication
  • Cutting
  • Working to agreed requirements
  • MIG, TIG welding and Plasma cutting including the fabrication process
  • Laser cutting, folding and tube bending.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Apprentices will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme. This will include a period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at SETA’s Apprenticeship Centre in Southampton.

You will also begin a technical certificate (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend SETA one day a week over two academic years. After your initial training at SETA, you will be with your employer working on developing your skills for your End Point Assessment.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Pudsey Diamond Engineering believe in training employees and are keen to use Apprenticeship schemes wherever practical since this will give the best combination of teaching and work in a real factory environment.
